30 Tips and Statistics On How to Prepare For a Sales Interview

- Some studies show that 88% of applications are rejected if there is photo on the resume/CV. However, in sales this is not the case and recruiters actually prefer it if applicants include a photo of themselves

- The average length of an interview is 40 minutes, however, according to a study, 33% of recruiters said that they know within the first 90 seconds if they will hire an applicant
- 67% of interviewers said they disqualified a candidate due to a lack of eye contact
- 55% of interviewers said they disqualified a candidate due to the way the candidate dressed
- 47% of interviewers said they disqualified a candidate due to the candidate having little or no knowledge of the company

- Familiarize yourself with the company you are interviewing for and what the sales position you are applying for requires of you
- Make sure you have nothing inappropriate on your social media channels. Use a “Social Sweepster” to remove any profanity or offensive language or images from your channels
- Think of your interviewer as a client, you are trying to sell yourself to them
- Dress appropriately, don’t underdress or overdress!
- Make sure your resume/CV stands out! There are many free templates online that you can use, especially for Adobe Indesign
- Always have at least 2-3 questions for the interviewer at the end of your interview
- Don’t speak negatively of your current or previous place of employment!
- The ideal sales candidate is energetic, social, positive and knows how to sell. Make sure to display these qualities in yourself during the interview
- Follow up with your interviewer! Send an email or call just to thank them and ask them when can you expect to hear from them. This will help you stand out, it will help the interviewer remember you and a friend of mine once got a job this way, so I know it works!
